Challenges in Advanced Fetal Monitoring

This course is designed for experienced Intrapartum nurses who have attended an intermediate course in Fetal Monitoring and/or are in need for advanced contact hours for recertification. Objectives for this course include: discussing physiology and regulatory control of FHR, principles of oxygen transport and acid/base balance. We will also Discuss NICHD definitions and issues with adopting that technology. The entire afternoon is case studies of complicated strips-evidence based tracing analysis.

AWHONN—Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course

This is a two day workshop that focuses on application of essential fetal monitoring knowledge and skills in intrapartum nursing. This class is designed for registered nurses with a minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience using EFM in an Antepartum or Intrapartum setting. Participants will earn CNE or CME credit on completion of the workshop and submission to AWHONN for certificate.

AWHONN—Advanced Fetal Monitoring Course

This is a one day course that expands on the knowledge and principles presented in the IFMC and covers more complex FHM patterns and characteristics, as well as integration of related case information. This course is designed for registered nurses with 2 or more years experience in inpatient EFM and for those that have attended the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course. Participants will earn CNE or CME credit on completion of the workshop and submission to AWHONN for certificate.

AWHONN—FHM Program Instructor Course

This is the one day train-the-trainer covering the principles of adult learning and reviewing the administrative and operational aspects of the IFMC and Advanced Fetal Monitoring Course. Participants must meet AWHONN Instructor requirements and have successfully completed the AWHONN IFMC and Advanced Fetal Monitoring Course. Participants will earn CNE or CME credit on completion of the workshop and submission to AWHONN for certificate.

Basic Fetal Monitoring

This 5 hour course serves as an introduction to the fetal heart monitoring (FHM). This course provides novice practitioners with tools to understand the benefits/limitations of different instrumentation, interpret FHM data, understand the maternal/fetal physiology affecting fetal heart rate tracings, implement interventions, and evaluate the effect of interventions on maternal and fetal well-being.

AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course

This 2-day workshop earns 18 contact hours and 15.25 CMEs. Offered in a standardized format, the course may be used as a competency assessment to validate the knowledge and skills of experienced nurses. Participants analyze case scenarios using key physiologic principles. Sessions offer demonstration, practice and testing of the following skills: Auscultation, Performing Leopold's Maneuvers, Placement of an intrauterine pressure catheter and spiral electrode, Interpretation of tracings, Identification of indicated nursing interventions, Communication and Documentation.

FHR Monitoring UPDATE 2008

This 2 hour course provides an introduction 2008 National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Workshop Report on Electronic Fetal Monitoring. Comparison is made between the 1997 NICHD Terminology/Recommendations and the 2008 NICHD Terminology/Recommendations. Analysis of fetal monitoring tracings using the 1997 terms compared to the 2008 terms is accomplished with the respective management recommendations.
