Our Teams

Methodist Children’s Hospital provides two critical care transport teams, capable of extending our outstanding level of critical care to your patients. A pediatric team and neonatal team are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to perform interfacility transports within Texas and throughout the country. Both teams are comprised of a highly skilled and specially trained transport registered nurse and transport respiratory therapist.

We Are Trained

All team members are experienced critical care providers with initial and continuing education relative to the unique transport environment (flight physiology, safety training and advanced life support skills). Pediatric transport nurses are required to maintain certification in PALS, ENPC and TNCC. Neonatal transport nurses are required to maintain certification in NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. pediatric/neonatal transport. Respiratory therapists are required to maintain PALS and NRP certification and remain highly skilled in Intubations. The team provides state-of-the-art critical care transport services under the direct supervision of, and in constant contact with, the Methodist Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensivists and Neonatologists.

Neonatal Back Transport Service

Once a transported infant has graduated and no longer needs the level of care provided at Methodist Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we offer back transport to the intermediate care of the originating hospital until discharge home. The purpose is to provide safe transfer of care to a specialized nursery that can meet the infant’s needs closer to the family’s home. This is accomplished when the Methodist Children’s Hospital Neonatologist initiates a plan to ensure the infant is ready to graduate and collaborates with the patient’s pediatrician/referring physician to ensure a safe transfer back to the originating hospital.

Equipment

Each transport vehicle is equipped as a portable intensive care unit with monitoring equipment found in a standard neonatal or pediatric intensive care unit.

  • Transport isolettes
  • Transport ventilators
  • Portable nitric oxide
  • High frequency ventilation capability for neonates
  • Portable oxygen equipment
  • Comprehensive invasive and non-invasive monitoring
